STEM PROJECTS

Build a LAUNCHER

Supplies: 1 cup, 1 spoon, 6 Popsicle sticks, 2 rubber bands,2’ tape, 2’ string, 1 projectile (block or pom-pom)

Directions: Using at least 2 of the supplies in provided in your kit, construct something tolaunch your projectile!  Be sure the areais ‘all clear’ before field testing your launcher.  How far did your projectile go?  Record your results.

Build a BRIDGE

Supplies: 20 Popsicle sticks, 3’ tape

Directions: Constructthe strongest and most aesthetically pleasing* bridge to span a 1’ divide usingprovided supplies. If you want, decorate Popsicle sticks with markers before orafter you build your bridge.  Test thestrength of your bridge using weights while bridge is spanning a 1’ divide.

*This activity could be classified as STEAM (Science,Technology, Engineering, ART, Math) because of the artistic component of thebridge.  This is a real issue whendesigning bridges because who wants to look at an eye-sore!

Fleur de Lis  Use three 1cm wide paper towel tube rings.  Pinch ends to flatten.  Hold all three flattened rings about a third of the way from the bottom.  Lift center tube just a little, and staple.  Open tube rings and curl to shape.
