January 27, 2021 - IMPORTANT UPDATE FROM OUR SCOUTMASTER
To all Mackinac Honor Scouts and their families,
To start off, I and the leaders of MIHT 168 hope all are well, safe, and healthy.
It gives me a sadness to write this, but our trip to Mackinac Island as Honor Scouts has been cancelled by the State again this year. I feel bad for all of the Scouts and Leaders not just from our Troop, but all Troops that were going this year.
I have not yet spoken to the people in charge of the program yet, but as soon as I finish writing this note, I will be on the phone.
The only bright spot i read in the letter that I received from them is that if things open up as time goes by, the State may open up for troops to go. I will let the State know that MIHT 168 will be ready to go any week that they would be willing to give us. It's only a hope. As of right now though, all is cancelled until hopefully something opens.
On a personal note, I think the State may have jumped the gun and should have waited a little longer before cancelling. I believe it should have been up to each Troop to continue meetings and training as they were able to with safety measures. Cancelling could have waited a little longer to see if anything was getting better. I truly believe the State made this decision a little too soon. With all that's going on in America right now, the young people (and even us older leaders) need to get back to getting together and being normal again, but that is just me.
Again, I am sorry for the cancellation, especially for the last year Scouts, but keep hope. Maybe as the days go by, the State will reconsider and open the summer season back up.
If anyone has ANY concerns, ideas, or questions, please feel free to call me on my cell phone and talk to me or leave me a voicemail and I can call you back. (Phone calls work better for me than emails.)
If anyone needs their payments back, please let me know directly via cell phone. I totally understand.
Let's keep our faith and prayers to get us going in a good direction.
Thank you.
Yours in Scouting,
Kirk Seibert
